Overview

Chaos Goal includes a multiplayer-ready gameplay framework that can be configured to use Steam for online matches.

By enabling the Steam Online Subsystem, players can create and join sessions over the internet, allowing friends from different locations to play together.

This section explains how to configure Steam, assign an App ID, enable the required plugins, and test online sessions using packaged builds.


⚠️ Important

Steam integration is optional and requires a Steamworks account, a valid Steam App ID, and additional project configuration.

The default Marketplace version uses LAN multiplayer. Complete the steps below before attempting to create or join internet sessions through Steam.


Requirements

Before starting, you will need:

A Steam account

Steam installed and running

A Steamworks App ID

Two different Steam accounts for testing

Two computers or separate testing environments

Packaged Windows builds of the project

Step 1 — Enable the Steam Plugins

Open:

Edit → Plugins

Enable:

Online Subsystem

Online Subsystem Steam

Steam Shared

If Using 5.5 and above install

Steam Sockets

Restart Unreal Engine after enabling the plugins.
